Hi,

What is the main cause of skin cancer? Please tell me the types of it also and prevention scheme.

The main cause of skin cancer is harmful ultraviolet rays. Long term exposure of sun rays lead to many skin problems. Tanning booths and sunlamps which are the artificial source of UV radiations are also responsible for skin cancer. People who have very fair skin that can burn easily and have lots of moles on body had more chances to be caught by cancer.


The most common type of skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. Basal cell carcinoma arises when the basal cell found in epidermis suffers. Basal cell and squamous cell can initially appear as little irritations or pimples. In severe cases they may scab and even bleed. Melanoma appears in irregular shaped, dark brown spots of the size of tip of a pencil eraser. It is very dangerous as can spread on brain or liver if not caught early.

The best way of shielding from sun is to wear protective clothing such as hats, full sleeves garments etc. Always use SPF products and products which have titanium dioxide before stepping out in sun.
